The Baptism of your child is an important event in the life of your family and of St. John's and St. Cornelius Parish. It is the beginning of a life-long relationship with Christ and with His Church.
Our general practices regarding Baptism:
1 - At least one parent must be a baptized Roman Catholic and a registered member of St. John’s and St. Cornelius Parish.
If you are new to the Parish or have not yet registered at St. John’s and St. Cornelius; please register by using parish envelopes.
Those not registered and those who live outside of our parish boundaries will be referred to the church they regularly attend.
2 - The child may have one or two godparents.
If two godparents are chosen, one is to be a man and the other a woman (Canon 873).
A Christian from another denomination may act as a Christian witness, however, it is necessary to have one Catholic godparent.
You may have only one Christian witness (Canon 874).
Godparents must be Baptized and Confirmed Roman Catholics at least sixteen (16) years of age or older.
3 - To register for a Baptism fill out the Baptism application form (available at the back of the church)
Please check the spelling of all names, dates and pertinent information, changes to the registry cannot be made later.
You will need to provide a copy of the Baptismal certificate of at least one Parent and one Godparent unless they were baptised or married in our Parish.
4 - Baptism dates are given at the Baptismal Preparation Meeting.
Do not arrange for family celebrations until the date has been officially set by the church.
Baptism Preparation meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 pm at St. John's Church.
Please call the office at 905-880-0080 if you have any questions about the Baptism Preparation Meeting.
5 - Baptisms are usually celebrated on the last Sunday of the month at 1:15 P.M., by appointment only.
